In mourning

Yes, I am in mourning of the peanut. As of yesterday apparently I am now allergic to peanuts and was told to cut them out of my diet. I am one of those people who have to read labels and be careful now! Never thought it would be peanuts! They are truly one of my favorite foods. So here is how it happened. Yesterday, I decided to have a healthy snack of some apple slices dipped in peanut butter. Immediately after I had the last bite, my lips and tongue started going numb, and it felt as if my throat was closing, I could still breathe okay, but I knew something was wrong. So knowing that peanut allergies can cause you to stop breathing, I took it seriously and called an advice nurse line, and they told me to take 2 benadryl and go into emergency care immediately, so that freaked me out a little. But I was not supposed to drive myself. So I called Chris, who came home immediately, dropped the kids off with Summer, and as we were on our way, I of course started feeling fine, at least my mouth felt better...I was a little dizzy. But by the time I saw the doctor, it probably looked like I was a big liar. So after describing my symptoms, he declared that it was an allergic reaction to peanuts and that I could not have them anymore, and that I needed to carry an epi-pen at all times, because if I have anything with peanuts or peanut oil, it will be worse than it was this time. The whole ordeal was so strange....kinda felt like I dreamed it. But thankfully everything was okay and I just ended up getting drugged up and going to bed at like 8:30. That Benadryl is powerful stuff! I do like peanuts so much that I thought it might be worth it to see if I could get tested to make sure it was for sure the peanut butter that caused this....it would be a bummer if it was something else that caused it. We'll see!

Oh Amber...how I understand to some degree. I also have been missing nuts, especially PB (with Kylie's issues). Wow- was this the first time you've had trouble with nuts?

Oh my goodness! I'm sorry. :( I am allergic to bee stings and used to carry an epipen...have gotten careless but this is a good wakeup call! I hope your adjustment goes smoothly. On another note, it was SOOOO good to see you last week! :)

Horror!!! I am SOOOO sorry. Katie's Joel is allergic to peanuts and we have gotten a little used to the trials he has to deal with in being allergic. Not fun. That is crazy that it just occurs so randomly, even after years of eating peanut butter. I wonder if you will be able to eat other nuts instead?! I hope so!! Take care my friend!
